Generic Descriptions

Generic Descriptions are words like very, nice, and great. Descriptions using these words are generally considered to be not very powerful. You may gain value by rewriting these in a more powerful way.For example:
It was very hot at midday
=>
By midday the sun was roasting the grass

He sent her a nice box of chocolates
=>The chocolates he sent her almost oozed luxury

The sound of the truck was very loud
=>
The truck almost deafened her as it screeched to a halt

These sentences illustrate that sentences with 'nice', 'very', etc, are not powerful enough. When you rewrite them then they become more interesting for the reader. Of course, there are exceptions to every rule but by concentrating on these as low hanging fruit you will significantly improve your writing in a short space of time.
